Summer books for Katarina

Deciding what to read at what moment is an art on its own, these are five books that I love and I think they match beautifully with sunny joyful vibes:

  • Giovanni’s Room – James Baldwin

I’m reading it right now, the talent of Baldwin is superb, words flow terribly smooth. Furthermore is about this intense love story so it’s a good reference for our romance talks in the train.

  • Goddesses in Every Woman – Jean Shinoda

Shinoda is a Jungian psychiatrist and made this book identifying archetypes from the goddesses of Greek mythology. The research around it is of good quality and with Javi we’ve had so much fun talking about the different profiles, you’re totally an Artemisa, Sem is an Ares, Javi is Dionysos and I’m Aphrodite. If you like the book then you can continue with Gods in Every Man.

  • When we Cease to Understand the World – Benjamin Labatut

The only contemporary Chilean writer that is worthy of reading these days.

  • A Manual for Cleaning Women – Lucia Berlín

Amazing short stories, Berlin is a Chilean writer who spent most of her life in the US, was discovered by the mainstream quite late.

  • Astropoets – Alex Dimitrov and Dorothea Lasky

Well, you will need some zodiac stuff during summer. Dimitrov and Lasky made excellent astrological profiles and wrote poems for every sign and they are super cute.
